Shea has performed in Plas Ballin in Northern Wales, Liverpool and Manchester, England, as well as in Reykjavik, Iceland.Shea tutors, teaches, and assists musicians and DJ’s around the globe on DJ tricks, tips, techniques, as well as on promotional advice. Shea’s connections and networking is constantly growing as he communicates with record labels, radio stations, promoters, and DJ’s from Sweden, Denmark, Australia, Iceland, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, and the Netherlands. Shea comments, “I like to meet new people and help upcoming musicians. DJing is just a hobby for me, but I want to help the people who are as passionate and dedicated to getting out there.”
Using Brad Brucks, Seizure Mike, and Pete Tong as his inspiration, Shea mixes a variety of styles ranging from Hip Hop, Drum and Bass, German Techno, Psy-Trance all the way to Electro, and Downtempo. Shea is known especially for his particular style of Heavy Hippo House, as well as his amazing stage presence and showmanship. His mixes have made an impact on listeners of all genres of music. Appealing to the hip-hop crowds, as well as house fans around the world, his mixing has made him stand out from other DJ’s. Shea uses up to four turntables to perform, which allows him to song stack and multi-track, creating unique blends of sounds and intense remixes. Shea laughs, “Sometimes I wish I had another two channels on the mixer so I could add more to my sets.”
Shea’s mix-tapes and sets are popular worldwide and have been played in clubs, cars, and homes especially in Western Canada as well as in Iceland, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. He is currently in university studying arts and music.

The ValleyAn epic journey through trance starts at the summit and moves deeply into a valley of cascading melodies that return to the crest of another peak.
This ‘all trance’ set is DJ Hippo’s first mix since “Hard Trance and German Techno”, in 2001. Shea swaps roles onstage with established trance DJ, Brad Brucks (DJ Uncle Buck). Shea Riley states, “It was a bit awkward at first, swapping mixing styles from back to back mashing which I usually use to mix house, to tail end mixing with these trance songs. I almost didn’t know what to do during the breakdowns because….well…I didn’t take them out.” This is Shea’s last Engage set for this series but Shea is planning on diving a bit more into trance this summer.

This is a special set that was designed to take the dance floor from a low energy state to a high energy state before going deeper into the music. Within the first 15min there is dub songs that slowly start to become less progressive and move into bouncing electro, this was used to get the patrons on their feet. To satisfy the metal-heads in the room and those who were looking to burn energy DJ Hippo moved towards harder electro for the grand peak around the 25min-30min mark. After, to set the mood for the following tech/trance DeeJay, DJ Hippo went into deeper tech/min/electro and dub and finally ending on a high note with an epic trance song. The overall visual sound image for the set is that of a mountain and it takes the dancefloor on a journey through the foot hills and to the summit and into the valley hidden behind the vast mountain scape.

This was DJ Hippos very first back-to-back hard electro set. Battle of the Band was originally envisioned to be a talent show. However, due to lack of enrolment of worthy bands, the promoters added DJ Hippo to the roster three days before the show. DJ Hippo was worried that trance and regular electro would not be energetic enough to move the dancefloor so he pulled out his favourite hard electro tracks. Enjoy 45min of hard thrashing and head banging punk-electro mixed by DJ Hippo.
